BPJS Kesehatan (Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Sosial Kesehatan) is Indonesia's universal health coverage program. It provides healthcare access to all residents through a single-payer social insurance system. Participation is mandatory for formal sector workers.
Coverage Benefits
BPJS Kesehatan covers preventive and curative services, hospitalization, surgery, medications, and specialist care. Benefits apply at contracted healthcare facilities. Different contribution classes affect the hospital room class available, though medical treatment quality should not differ.
Contribution Structure
Formal sector employees share contributions with employers. The employer pays 4% and the employee pays 1% of monthly wages up to a cap. Self-employed and informal workers pay flat monthly amounts based on their chosen class. Government subsidizes contributions for the poor.
Foreign Worker Coverage
Foreign workers employed in Indonesia for at least six months must participate in BPJS Kesehatan. Their dependents residing in Indonesia are also covered. Employers must register foreign employees and manage their contributions alongside local staff.
