Staffing Agency

A company that recruits employees and places them with client organizations, often for temporary assignments.

General

Staffing agencies, also called temp agencies or employment agencies, connect workers with companies needing labor. The agency typically employs the worker and assigns them to clients. This model provides flexibility for clients and employment opportunities for workers.

How It Works

The staffing agency recruits, screens, and employs workers. When a client needs staff, the agency assigns appropriate workers to that client. The agency handles payroll, benefits, and employment compliance. The client directs day-to-day work. Fees are typically a markup on wages.

Types of Staffing

Temporary staffing covers short-term assignments. Temp-to-perm starts as temporary with potential conversion to permanent. Direct placement involves recruitment for permanent positions. Specialized agencies focus on particular industries or skill sets.

Staffing vs. EOR

While both involve third-party employment, they serve different purposes. Staffing agencies provide workers to fill client needs, often temporary. EORs employ workers the client has already identified, usually for ongoing roles. EOR clients maintain the employment relationship; staffing clients receive a service.
