Termination Compliance (Offboarding)

The administrative steps that complete a lawful termination after the decision is made: final pay, statutory documents, benefits and system access, government filings and record retention.

Termination

Termination compliance covers grounds, procedure and notice. Offboarding is the stage that follows, and each country sets its own deadlines and documents for it.

Final pay and documents

Severance, pay in lieu of notice and leave encashment are due by the local deadline, and several US states require final wages on the last day of work. Each country prescribes its own documents: a P45 in the UK, a relieving letter in India, and a carta de trabajo or finiquito across Latin America.

Benefits, systems and equipment

Confirm in writing when each benefit ends and any continuation right, including COBRA. System access ends on the last day, equipment is recovered, and the employee is reminded of their obligations under any NDA or non-compete clause.

Filings and records

The employee is deregistered from social security and pension schemes, the termination is reported through payroll, and any sponsored work permit is cancelled. Keep the personnel file for the retention period the country sets, because claims often arrive months after departure.
