Statutory Minimums

Contractual Notice
Employment contracts often specify notice periods longer than statutory minimums, especially for senior roles. These contractual terms are binding. Notice requirements typically apply equally to employer and employee, though this is not universal.
Payment in Lieu of Notice
Many jurisdictions allow payment instead of working notice periods. This lets employers end employment immediately while compensating the employee for the notice period. However, this option is not available everywhere and may have tax implications.
